Brazil has voiced strong condemnation of the United States following the arrival of 88 Brazilian deportees who were handcuffed during their transfer. The plane, which included 16 US security agents and eight crew members, was originally scheduled to land in Belo Horizonte but diverted to Manaus due to technical issues.

Brazilian Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski criticized the treatment of the deportees, labeling it a "blatant disrespect" of their fundamental rights. Following this incident, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva intervened by ordering a Brazilian Air Force aircraft to transport the deportees to their intended destination, ensuring they could travel with dignity and safety.

The handcuffing of deportees has sparked controversy in Brazil, and even former President Jair Bolsonaro had previously expressed opposition to such practices. While the deportation flight was the result of a 2017 bilateral agreement and not a direct consequence of any recent executive orders by President Donald Trump, it nonetheless highlights ongoing tensions surrounding immigration policies and treatment of migrants.
