COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mayor Andrew Ginther and other city leaders outlined how the Columbus Snow Warriors are preparing for the winter storm set to move through central Ohio Sunday night into Monday morning.
Department of Public Service Director Kelly Scocco said the Snow Warriors have been preparing for this storm for several days. The department is fully staffed and ready for the plow trucks to be operating around the clock.

In addition, there will be more auxiliary drivers this year. These are drivers from other city departments who were trained by the infrastructure management division to drive pickup trucks outfitted with plows to get a start on residential streets.
Ginther said the number of auxiliary drivers has nearly doubled since last year and they have triple the number of contractors this year compared to 2024.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mayor Andrew Ginther and other city leaders outlined how the Columbus Snow Warriors are preparing for the winter storm set to move through central Ohio Sunday night into Monday morning.
Department of Public Service Director Kelly Scocco said the Snow Warriors have been preparing for this storm for several days. The department is fully staffed and ready for the plow trucks to be operating around the clock.
In addition, there will be more auxiliary drivers this year. These are drivers from other city departments who were trained by the infrastructure management division to drive pickup trucks outfitted with plows to get a start on residential streets.
Ginther said the number of auxiliary drivers has nearly doubled since last year and they have triple the number of contractors this year compared to 2024.
The mayor asks residents to stay off the road if possible so the Snow Warriors can clear the streets. He also advises checking on your neighbors who may be seniors or people with challenges or disabilities to make sure they are OK.
Snow began impacting the central Ohio area for some on Sunday afternoon and will continue through the night into Monday morning, with the heaviest snow occurring overnight.
Several inches of snow, possibly more than four inches, appears likely for many in central Ohio.
These totals will only rise the farther south you go. Travel will likely be difficult, if not impossible, at times — especially across our southern counties late Sunday through Monday.
Snow will taper some by Monday after sunrise, but will likely pick back up in some spots by the afternoon. All regions should be back to quiet, yet bone-chilling weather by Monday night.
