The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Sunday night that charges will be filed against a group accused of looting and a man accused of arson.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman will announce the charges Monday afternoon against a group of people arrested for looting in the aftermath of the fire in the Pacific Palisades.
The office did not specify which group Hochman will file charges against, but Santa Monica police said 39 people have been arrested for looting in evacuation zones for the Palisades Fire. None of them are from the area.
Hochman will also announce charges against a man who was arrested in the city of Azusa for allegedly starting a fire intentionally.
Azusa police said officers arrested Jose Carranza-Escobar in the Pioneer Park area late Friday night after a reported brush fire. A witness at the scene told police that Carranza-Escobar set the fire and then he allegedly admitted that he did commit the crime.
LA County firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly and the city's public works and light and water departments are assessing the damage.
The police department said it "urges everyone to remain alert as fires continue to affect the county."
