Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is set to announce on Friday that he has chosen Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted to fill the Senate vacancy left by Vice President-elect JD Vance. The announcement will take place around 1 p.m.


Vance, who resigned from the Senate on January 9, officially vacated his seat the following day, just days before his inauguration alongside President-elect Trump. In his resignation statement, Vance expressed gratitude to the people of Ohio for the opportunity to serve and reiterated his commitment to supporting President Trump's agenda over the next four years.

Following Vance's resignation, incoming Senator Bernie Moreno applauded Vance's service, highlighting his dedication and contributions as both a Marine and a senator. With Husted's appointment, Republicans will solidify their 53-vote majority in the Senate.


In related news, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his selection of Attorney General Ashley Moody to replace Senator Marco Rubio, who is expected to resign soon after being confirmed as Secretary of State. Moody's swearing-in will follow Rubio's resignation.
