Authorities are investigating a possible link between the Cybertruck that exploded outside Trump Tower in Las Vegas and the terror attack in New Orleans.
The driver died and seven others were injured after the electric vehicle blew up at the entrance of the luxury hotel in Nevada.
This came after 15 people were killed in New Orleans when a US Army veteran drove a pickup truck through crowds celebrating the New Year in the city’s French Quarter early on Wednesday morning.
Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said authorities know who rented the truck with the Turo car sharing app in Colorado, but are not releasing the name until investigators determine if it is the same person who died.
The Turo car sharing app was also used by the New Orleans terrorist, identified by the FBI as Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
Investigators are understood to be investigating whether the two suspects are connected through the military.
Jabbar had served in the US Army for 10 years. His military record included a deployment to Afghanistan.
NBC News reported that the suspect in the Las Vegas blast also had previous military experience, citing law enforcement sources.
“We are absolutely investigating any connectivity to what happened in New Orleans as well as other attacks that have been occurring around the world,” Mr McMahill said. “We are not ruling anything out.”
Firework mortars and camp fuel canisters were found stuffed into the back of the Tesla.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and Clark County Fire Department officials said that a person died inside the futuristic-looking pick-up truck and seven people nearby suffered minor injuries.
By late Wednesday afternoon, authorities were still working to get the body out of the vehicle and start processing the evidence inside. President Joe Biden was briefed on the explosion.

In one clip the vehicle is seen engulfed in flames amid the sound of sirens and several loud bangs.
The driver had pulled into the valet area of the hotel before the vehicle exploded, Mr McMahill, the sheriff of the Las Vegas police said.
Mr McMahill said: “As you can imagine, with an explosion here on an iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all of the precautions that we need to take to keep our community safe.”
He added: “Obviously, a Cybertruck, the Trump Hotel, there’s lots of questions that we have to answer as we move forward.”
