The survey conducted by Gallup provides a snapshot of American optimism regarding President-elect Trump's ability to manage various policy goals, particularly immigration. Notably, 68 percent of U.S. adults expressed confidence that Trump will successfully control illegal immigration, positioning this as the area of greatest optimism for his upcoming presidency.
In comparison, expectations for his success across other policy areas are also relatively positive, with 60 percent believing he will reduce unemployment and enhance national security against terrorism, and 58 percent expecting economic improvements. Additionally, 55 percent think he will steer the country away from war, while a majority anticipates tax cuts and crime reduction.
However, there are more mixed feelings regarding his potential to heal political divisions and improve race relations, with only 33 percent and 41 percent expressing confidence in these areas, respectively. The survey highlights a significant partisan divide, as Republican respondents show strong confidence in Trump's abilities, while Democrats tend to be more skeptical.
