In light of ongoing wildfires in California, she responded to President-elect Trump's criticisms of Gov. Gavin Newsom regarding his handling of the situation. Criswell urged that disasters should not be politicized, stating, “These types of weather events, they do not discriminate,” and expressed confidence that FEMA will continue to deliver essential services and support to affected communities during the presidential transition from Biden to Trump. Her comments come amidst severe wildfires in California, which have resulted in at least 16 fatalities, with significant portions of the Palisades and Eaton Fires still not fully contained.
